Landcare Tasmania have recently released their report on water quality in the Huon Valley up to 2025. Their most recent report can be read here, and you can find more details including previous reports and appendices of data on the Landcare site.
Quoting directly from the conclusion:
The larger less developed and more highland rivers (upper Huon River, Picton River, Arve River, Little Denison River & upper Russell River) have the highest water quality with low to slightly elevated conductivity, turbidity and infrequent high temperature or pH events. Nutrient data for these rivers is also very low or only slightly elevated for nitrate and nitrite (NOx). However, for all sites other than the upper Russell River only small numbers of samples were collected. In sites lower down on these rivers (lower Huon River and Russell River) there are indications of change with more variable water quality including high temperature and EC occurrences. Similarly, pH appears to have
increased in most sites where historic data is available. These water quality patterns match well with mapped Land Use Intensity, and also with the ecological health as indicated by SIGNALT scores (waterbugs).
